My personal story as it’s been and as it is now, sharing my life and practicing writing at the same time.

“Carpe Diem”

Back to the French Alps

Well, I missed out on going back to my beloved second home in the French Alps last year, instead opting to have a SUP surfing experience in Peru followed by the Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu. Don't get me wrong here, it was a great trip and an amazing experience but I did miss my French Alps. So now I'm on my way back to my second home, Allemont in the French Alps. I will cycle, hike, immerse myself in the small village culture and of course I will be "WFA" or Working From Anywhere. I will be working on [...]

Working By The Weather Forecast Not The Mon-Fri

As I wake up on this wet, cold and rainy Saturday morning, the nice longish bike ride up the coast after a busy week of work is no longer looking like an option. Check the weather app, 100% chance of rain 15-25mm for the rest of the day, to make matters worse the wind is blowing onshore, so a surf is not an option either. The epithony that this rainy day awakened in me? This got me to thinking and questioning myself on my work routine. I came to the realisation that, whilst I had transitioned to a the new [...]

Living the Working From Anywhere Life

I sometimes feel the need to pinch myself, is this really my life? You see, this is how my life has been for the past few years: I run a successful business but I don’t have a permanent office. I’ve spent the majority of the past three Australian winters cycling and hiking in the French Alps, working on my business from there and immersing myself in the small French village community. The rest of the year I spend in the small but beautiful coastal village of Tathra on the Far South Coast of NSW, Australia. Here I fit my work [...]

25 Days in Peru – What a difference a day makes

What a difference a day can make, a full day yesterday with the business brain switched off. Spent a lot of the day just relaxing, reading a book, hanging out in the hammock on the front deck and trying to limit my thoughts to my surfing. I also took some time to watch the video footage of me on some waves at last week's SUP Camp to see if I could pick out some areas to improve (plenty available). I was actually quite disappointed in the coaching or lack of at the SUP Camp, I was really looking forward to [...]

25 Days in Peru – It’s all about the wave

So yesterday I made the decision to give myself a 2 day break from anything to do with business, so today the mind is free. Chicama Surf Resort Update Having now spent a full week at the Chicama Surf Resort the first thing I need to do is update my thoughts on the place. The week there was very pleasant, the staff were excellent as was the food and I got to meet some great people. Upon leaving the manager and owner invited me to use the Resort for this week even though I'm not staying there, including all the [...]

Taking time out to think

So here I am in Peru having a fun time surfing some long waves and hanging out somewhere different, so why am I lacking motivation? Baring some soul in this one but that is the idea for this site, it's my place to practice writing and put my thoughts into words. Not necessarily to share but I guess if you're reading this for some reason or other, then yes I'm sharing. I'm also just blurting it out as it comes. So after a laid back afternoon, more a lazy one where I couldn't seem to find too much in the [...]

25 Days in Peru – Whats in a hotel

Well the plan was to try and write a post most days but that hasn’t quite worked out, between 3 hour surf sessions, eating, recovering from surf sessions and keeping up with some work the day seems to pass. Anyway let’s rewind to the back to day 3 at Chicama, after 2 nights at Surf House Chicama it was time to move 100 metres up the road to join the SUP Camp. The hotel, Chicama Surf Resort was a complete contrast to the Surf House Chicama, much more up market and resort like. Arriving at the front entrance, the only [...]

25 Days in Peru – Go left and go left again

As the saying goes I “didn’t take much rockin’” last night, slept like a baby and woke up ready to catch my first wave. I wandered out to the front of the hostel to be greeted by this glorious view... I did however need to be a bit patient as Katia (hostel owner and host) had arranged for me to join a couple of other guests to go out to the point in a Zodiac. To explain that one, the point where the wave starts is a long way out so its either a long paddle or you hire a [...]

25 Days in Peru – The 3 airline situations that won’t guarantee you get to your destination

The elusive 1 hour 20 min flight, so close yet so far away, I can now confirm the 3 airline situations that won’t guarantee you get to your destination. These are those situations as they happened: 10:40 am - You’ve checked in, through security, delayed but boarded the flight, sitting comfortably in your assigned seat awaiting takeoff – no not today folks, please disembark and collect your baggage. 7:20pm - You’ve checked in, through security, delayed but boarded the flight, sitting comfortably in your assigned seat awaiting takeoff, the flight takes off (internal happy dance happening), airline snack served and [...]
